4400 X-Files and American Psyche
Go search USA (use search nt "go" )on Wikipedia what you'll get is USA 3000(airlines),USAE(US governing body of equestrian sport), some video game, shotgun but no mention of the country(i dint check the 2nd page but the relevancy was down to 60% so evenif its thr u realise how relevant it is).
Bluntly speaking americans don have any history of themselves and in the name of history what we get is American Revolution and Civil war. Its said History and myth are basic components which define the cultural genesis but its not religious its social.
As it is believed we human being subconciously need a notion that thers somthin somwhere unknown undiscovered and even the concept of GOD probably came from thr. Myth gives that support and we lean on it to act puppets for say GOD, and in return we gets to blame him for all things ever went wrong. What americans can call their own is from Red Indians but what myth even they r not part of main stream.
There is such a large section of society who migrated frm places like Mexico, Europe, Asia and all these brought their own culture and their own long history with them. So lack of the element of collective myth made everyone miss the coherence in the society n probably thats the reason its bit easy to settle there. I mean if society is not coherent it does not have rules n so next person goes there he does what he want to and lives the way he wants no one cares.
Anyways getting back to the topic, here we have Ramayana, Mahabharata etc while in name of myth what americans have to offer is probably LOTR which hardly is. So there was always a big lacuna needed to be filled and then entered the "west coast air raid"(see image) which was an unidentified flying object encounter and occurred on February 24, 1942. This incident in conjunction with other smaller ones and later media hype made UFOs more important discussion topic than even USSR. And time (both samay and magazine) and media ensured people have something which unlike myth is forward looking towards the future.
This has been good for them for it makes 50 states forget their dual citizenship at least on something, well apart from celebrities. Apparently UFOs dont adher to Television prime time and thus came 4400, X-Files and many more. They delved into it and the Americans loved them, hugged thm, kissed them. X-Files have almost every third episode whr somone is creating Fighter planes on "UFO technology" or else getting abducted and 4400 is all about ppl borrowed(abducted would be harst on them) and brought in time with special powers to makes things right(philanthropy alies style..lol).
X-Files made in hindi might never be accepted by indian audience, the few series which were made were mostly "for children", adult psychology just wont agree.
So if ur Ekta Kapoor thn what ur doing is just right keep making Saas hate her Bahu. And if u happen to be from US visa office u should know I love aliens (grim faced me) even my alter ego is named "Jadoo" get me a Green card n i'll get a big Dubya poster as well.

TTY!! just had to say it (sort of a tradition now :) as far as mythologies are concerned, the whole Western hemisphere was always obsessed with Greek/Roman and Norse mythologies. i guess that's what an continent-spanning empire can do! all native myths are hardly well known these days. (the English have their King Arthur, etc but not much else)
Comparing LOTR to Ramayana/Mahabharata is surely unfair. LOTR was the work of a single Brit, whereas the latter are the product of generations of creativity (and a little history too). Imho, America stands for contemporariness, period.
As far as UFOs and aliens are concerned, both are fast going out of fashion (esp in the sci-fi community) since the possibility of aliens dropping down seems to have dropped even further, and lots of alien sightings have proven to be hoaxes. In fact, if i were to try and make a far-reaching paranormal TV show for America now, i'd rather make it on ghosts (ramsay style) rather than gooey aliens (but then thats just my opinion). as for the 4400, it's not about aliens my dear Jadoo!

well my comaprison of LOTR is because in US LOTR stories r even taught to kids in schools. about 4400 well i guess ppl from earth with different time frame might well be called alien only.
myth helps in defining a culture and are supported by history to look little authentic, which obviously LOTR lacks.Greek Roman mythologies r there but its tough for ppl to associate with them as its nt their story not even in thr dreams and myth is all about association.
